Setting your mindset and goals for success
The foundation of your success happens before you step foot in the gym or eat an extra piece of fruit.
To change your body you must first change your mind.
You likely got into this pickle of not being the fit father you want because you weren’t sure you were capable.
But you’re reading this because, just like Neo in The Matrix, you’re starting to believe in yourself.
And to be successful, you’re going to have to run with that and use it to set your goals.
This guide will show you how to do that.
The mindset choice you must make
You are capable of change.
Humans are malleable and you are no exception. You can bend yourself to your will.
You simply have to choose what that will is and be relentless about living up to it.
We call this growth versus fixed mindset.
A fixed mindset means you believe you cannot change. You are forever stuck as is.
A growth mindset means you know you can change and grow into a different person.
You are never limited by who you are right now.
Your potential is endless.
I think it’s pretty obvious what happens with your results whether you’re in a fixed or growth mindset.
One will go nowhere and one will take you to your destination.
It’s up to you to believe you are capable of change.
Because you unequivocally are. I am 100% certain of it.
And if you don’t believe it, write it down every day at the start of the day.
“I am capable of change,” you journal every morning.
It might take some convincing, but without this piece you’ll stay stuck.
With this piece, you can accomplish anything.
The choice is yours — and yes, it is simply a choice.
Setting goals effectively
Now that your mindset is focused on growth and your limitless potential, you can hone in on the goals you want to accomplish.
Understanding your goals, why you want to achieve them, and how to get there sets an unshakeable foundation on which to add strength training, conditioning, and nutrition.
You can build that foundation with a structure called WOOP:
Wish — what do you really want?
Outcome — why do you want it?
Obstacle — what will potentially get in your way of achieving it?
Plan — what must you do in the next day/week/month to get you closer?
I’ll give you an example that is me 9 years ago when I got started.
Wish — to lose weight (75 pounds)
Outcome — feel confident in myself, not feel uncomfortable in my own skin, feel desirable to women since I was single at the time
Obstacle — sweets & pizza, being lazy and playing Mario Kart instead of working out
Plan — workout immediately after work every weekday, no exceptions; 1 meal a week of pizza, but limit portions
The deeper you go with each of these, the better chance you have to be successful.
I didn’t say I wanted to lose weight because I wanted to look good.
That’s true, but it’s not deep.
What’s deeper is that I didn’t feel desirable to women. I didn’t feel comfortable in my body.
All that comes down to looking better, but we must get to the raw emotions in order for this to stick and be powerful enough to be a catalyst for change.
Expose yourself and you’ll reveal your results.
